Iris ser. Longipetalae is a series of the genus Iris, in Iris subg. Limniris.. William Rickatson Dykes in his book 'Handbook of Garden Irises' (of ) includes 4 species in his Iris longipetala subsection; including Iris longipetala (Herbert), Iris missouriensis Nuttall, Iris arizonica (Dykes, ) and Iris montana (Nuttall). Iris arizonica and Iris montana have since been classified as Family: Iridaceae.   In the early s, Tennessee residents were swept up in a wave of gardening. Enthusiastic green thumbs joined garden clubs, discussed native plants, and urged the state legislature to designate a state flower. Lawmakers joined in on the excitement and soon the beautiful Iris was chosen. The trouble was, Tennessee already had a state flower! Iris setosa (also known as bristle-pointed iris), is a species in the genus Iris, it is also in the subgenus Limniris and in the series is a rhizomatous perennial from a wide range across the Arctic sea, including Alaska, Maine, Canada (including British Columbia, Newfoundland, Quebec and Yukon), Russia (including Siberia), northeastern Asia, China, Korea and southwards to : Iridaceae.
